  How to Read for Grad School | Miriam E. Sweeney

• Write Using ****jstor.org (CCA has an account and you login with your CCA email and password) or Google Scholar - Find one academic journal essay on an Interaction Design or Design History topic you are interested in and then write 1 paragraph about the topic/essay and develop a bibliography for the topic that includes 2 primary sources and 3-4 secondary sources. (Post using the category Bibliography.)

  Videos - Week 2

  • A quick art history lesson - this short video on Leonardo di Vinci's inventions.
  • Learn more about early writing and moveable type by watching the first 10:37 minutes of the Type History slideshow which takes you up to the 1850's. Bonus if you choose to watch the full 24 minutes which goes until the current era of web typography.
  • Then watch this documentary on wooden moveable type in China.
  • OPTIONAL VIEWING History of Books - talks about Johannes Gutenberg and the invention of paper and books. There are a couple of points that are wrong. Can you find them?

• Write One paragraph explaining why it's important to have a basic background understanding of the importance of moveable type and the Renaissance as a time of invention, as an Interaction Designer. Post to the class blog. Use the category Renaissance on your post so that it shows up in the right category in the navigation.

• BONUS WRITING 1 Watch the optional viewing video. Can you find the errors? Extra points for finding them and writing a short paragraph identifying the errors. Use the category Bonus Writing. Post to the class blog.
